redoing the counters and backsplash in the kitchen have been on my tackle list for three years. i sold another layer of some of my favorite things and finally had enough to do it.
i got the call on wednesday and the most awesome dudes in the world had it prepped for tiling for thursday. i got home from work yesterday and the groutwork had been done. i took a break from the thesis project and cleaned the kitchen from ceiling to floor last night.

we kept the old sink since it is still functional and everlovely in her old chippiness. i just cleaned it up and it seems to love its new digs.

the one thing that i had been searching for were vintage-style drawer pulls. we went to the restoration hardware outlet and i found them for $2.49! the simple substitution really kicked it up a bit.
they looked great in the plastic bag, but once i got them open, they were a bit too new looking. my brother-in-law came to the rescue with a trick. he told me how to mattefinish the metal. using a scotch brite sponge with the scrubbing pad, i scrubbed and scrubbed to get the finish dull.

the light is amazing now. it seemed the old backsplash sucked all of the light of the kitchen. i love all of the layers of vanilla.
*triple sigh*

Oh, Dawn, it looks even more beautiful than it did last summer. I love the redo.
Something's missing though...oh, I know. It needs a batch of custard cooling on the counter. :)
