joan didion

i have been meaning to read joan didion's work for a few years now. really, i have. you can bet your boots that when i am stressed and under a deadline that i have to calm myself with a book. just to get a few pages or a chapter in at a time makes me feel like i am beating the system somehow. the latest destresser is blue nights. it was such a lovely read, raw and full of melancholy, strength and loss of her beloved daughter, quintana roo.

next on the list is joan's the year of magical thinking.

I've heard good things about this book. "Beating the system" is a great way to describe sneaking in a read.
