blue hole special

summer harvest

this is just half of the afternoon's harvest for a pot of blue hole special, which is a gumbo that my grandmother used to make after a day of swimming at blue hole in wimberley. surprisingly, we had enough okra to harvest to make the dish complete.

this old german strainer has already proved to be the best garden accoutrement. i bought it from my sister during our last sale together. lurve it so.

And they were hard little green globes when I saw them last and here they are -- red and gorgeous and ready to eat!

Your basil has my mouth watering...and that orange-spotted tomato is calling my name!

Don't ya just love old family favorite recipes? :) My grandmother's big chocolate sheet cake and her cheese roll come to mind...
