betting girl

worthy of a doorframe

this doorframe is one of my favorite things in the world. our old (and first) house was the first place where we were able to mark permanently, or as permanent as you can get. in the course of remodeling, it was removed and stored while still being used as a measuring stick. this doorframe was the first thing that was brought into this home and it continues its important task of the invaluable measure.

it has measured the loss of first teeth, bike rodeo wins, endless hours of the boys' band rehearsals at our house, dinners at the round table, first loves, heartbreak, new beginnings, answered prayers and homecoming. it now bears witness to a happy home where the fur flies and where positive is as positive does.

the one thing that it can not measure is how much they have really grown. the real growth comes from life's struggles and obstacles. God is a God of miracles. if He can take you to it, He can take you through it.

if i was a betting girl, i would bet on wonderful things for my children. oh, and on the indelible power of the sharpie.

We must shop at the same place. I have a doorframe almost exactly like that here at my house. :)

I have one, too. I agree, it's the keeper of special memories.

Dawn....this is about as sweet as sweet can get! I will be a guest curator on Crescendoh (aka. Jenny Doh) beginning May 31st and we have been asked for (favorite) links...and of course, I did think of you and will be mentioning you in my art saves story. Would you mind if I add a link to your blog? And, perhaps to this post..unless I find about a hundred others I know I will love~

My Mom has a door frame like yours!
I love it; I am a military spouse, so my children don't have such a door frame. They do have a mark at my Mom's house though, on and off through the years! This is a wonderful family landmark~
